An initiative of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has seen local charities and social enterprise groups receive a welcome boost to their funding for their work with the local community and for life changing research.

The donations were funded through the Centre’s participation in the Containers for Change Scheme, which allows the Centre to give back to the community.

The first organisations to receive funding from the scheme was local social enterprise group, Common Ground Queensland which provides supportive housing for the homeless, and an initiative of the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, Common Good, which funds medical research into heart and lung disease.

The Centre’s Executive Chef, Matthew Arnold and his team, who were looking for more effective ways to support the community, were the initial drivers behind the initiative with the full support of BCEC staff.

BCEC General Manager, Kym Guesdon said the BCEC staff family was at the very heart of the Centre’s community activities, delivering meals to the homeless and most vulnerable and helping out at the Centre’s annual Salvation Army Christmas lunch.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community and continue to aspire to creating a positive impact wherever possible. Environmental, cultural and social integrity are fundamental to the daily operations of the Centre.”
